Water Softening
-
To soften water to all fixtures
in a residence or building, hard minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and
some forms of iron are removed.
-
There are many benefits to having
soft water. Without the hard minerals, water will cause less damage to
plumbing fixtures such as water heaters and dishwashers. Soft water does
not leave stains and residue on fixtures, tile, glassware etc. In addition,
you will use less detergent and get cleaner clothes and dishware. Friendlier
cleaning products, which contain fewer chemicals to soften the water, can
also be used. With soft water, you can bathe with pure soap, which is less
abrasive and friendlier to your skin.
-
Water softening does not remove
chemicals or other minerals in the water that you may not want to drink.
Filters or reverse osmosis systems are better suited for cleaning water
for drinking and/or cooking.
-
Salt is used in a backwash cycle
to discharge the removed minerals during the water softening process. People
who cannot tolerate salt in their water would want to have a filter system
for drinking water.
Why Soften Your Water?
-
To reduce scaling of pipes and
plumbing fixtures.
-
To help soap and detergent clean
better and make your clothes last longer.
-
To reduce the cost of using
laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, and shampoo.
-
To leave less soap scum and
calcium build up.
-
To reduce soap scum that can
clog pores and coat your skin, which can be a haven for bacteria, causing
diaper rash and/or minor skin irritations.
Water Filters & Reverse Osmosis Systems
-
Water filtration is usually
used as point of use. Often water filters are used in the kitchen or bar
areas where water is used for drinking and cooking. Water filters can be
used to filter chlorine, chemicals, and minerals from water using separate
water dispensers and hookups to ice makers.
-
The reverse osmosis water system
(RO) is the generally preferred method of super cleaning water for drinking.
Many bottled water products are made using the reverse osmosis process.
A reverse osmosis water system in your kitchen is a great way of having
very high quality water without having to pay for bottled water.
